Diamond

On March 15 we came back to the SPCA with Chance (formerly Fergus) to see if we could find him a new cat friend.  We chose Lucie -- well actually she chose us.  When I went into the cat room to look, she got up on her hind legs in the cage and stuck her paw through the bars to try to touch me.  We took her upstairs to the quiet room to let her meet Chance.  She was so calm and pleasant and not at all concerned about being around a dog.  Decision made - we went downstairs to sign the papers.

We brought her home, changed her name to Diamond, and it is like she has always lived with us.  She is about one year old, so she still has a lot of kitten in her.  She loves to rocket around the house, bouncing off the walls, she adores being carried around, and she goes crazy at meal times, crying and carrying on as if she hasn't eaten in weeks!

It took Chance about 2 weeks to understand that he did not have to be afraid of Diamond.  He had lived in terror of the cat we had before.  Now they are the best of friends.  Chance chases Diamond around the house and she lets him, until she gets tired of it and jumps up to a spot where he can't reach her.  When Chance walks past her she swats at him, but never uses her claws.  Her favourite thing in the world is being outside - no matter what the weather.  We got her a harness, a microchip and a tag with our name and address on it, and we let her out in the yard on a leash.  She would stay outside forever (well, except for meals).

I'm sending some photos.  You can see that she feels at home here.  Thank you once again for making our family even more complete.

Update January '09 ...

We just wanted to give you a brief update on Fergus (golden doodle - adopted in August 2007 and renamed Chance) and Lucie (grey domestic longhair - adopted in March 2008 and renamed Diamond).  They have become very good friends and it is hard to believe that they haven't been together their whole lives. I am sending a picture of the two of them doing what they do all day long (I'm jealous).

Thanks for all your great work.

Maryka and Ron
